ABOUT US – Read On
NAYA RASTA has over the past seven years documented drastic changes proving to be destructive and detrimental to the majority of this country. The late Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi had warned the nation and specifically the Congress leadership of the seven deadly sins that confront us in our daily lives
a. Politics without Principles
b. Wealth without Work
c. Business without Morality
d. Education without Character
e. Pleasure without Conscience
f. Science without Humanity
g. Worship without Sacrifice
Today, Indians have to judge for themselves where they stand having willfully violated these precepts while disparity between the ‘haves and the have nots’ has widened beyond any possibility of any correction.
The legislators, law makers, the law enforcement agencies and the legal services delivery system being beyond the reach of the law they promulgate, attribute to themselves a divine God-like authority over humanity and the natural resources.
Restoration of Basic Needs
Trilokpuri was established in 1976 when thousands were evicted from slums across south and central Delhi and resettled across 36 blocks. (Please refer to Google Search for ugly current data). Each block has around 500 houses with each house being allotted a bare 25 sq. yds., of space without any toilet facilities or, sewer lines. Two sets of common toilets and dustbins besides temples and mosques were duly developed. The religious composition of the slums was replicated in Trilokpuri; five of which – Blocks 15, 20, 27, 32 and 36 have significant Muslim populations, while the remaining blocks are largely dominated by Dalits (the most excluded community for over 5000 years). The minority communities and girls, face continuous oppression, assault and terrifying abuse here and the establishment uses this situation to misappropriate development funds.
Growing intolerance, lawlessness, maniacal violence and corruption in every fiber of Indian society has demolished society itself. Our political and religious leadership have washed their hands of all responsibility and accountability by terming it a ‘global’ phenomenon.
NAYA RASTA – at the core of a girls ‘priority need and, self-esteem’
THE GIRLS OF TRILOKPURI: NAYA RASTA
target beneficiaries are girls in the age-group 12 and above working in local commercial establishments or, as domestic workers. Income ranges from below $2 per day to definitely below $5 per day. Income from the girls supports the entire family which at its least count numbers three adults and a minimum of four children. The male members, work as daily labour/wage earners in factories or, operate electric rickshaws/ auto drivers, while some operate small businesses and food stalls besides stalls in weekly markets. However, these income generating sources are dependent on weather conditions and monthly salary days. Most of the boys are otherwise visible on the streets without any steady source of income. Alcoholism, drug addiction and chemical dependency issues play rampant with the local male population degrading the lives and financial status of the affected families. Evidence of the above is visible at every stage and walk of life. Civic life and insanitary conditions, over-flowing garbage dumps and unauthorized business enterprise rule above and beyond the rules laid down by the municipal corporation. In short, it is not civic laws but ‘mafia’ intervention who dictate how life shall unfurl here. Women are ignored by the enforcement agencies.
NAYA RASTA
monitors the quality and delivery of government policies and delivery of services at the ground level. The role of non-governmental organisations (NGOs)/CSOs in the existing scenario necessitates questioning the social development sector/community organisations, how honest is our own self-assessment??
The Lok Sabha passed the Anti-rape Bill/The Criminal Law (Amendment) Bill 2013
on the evening ofTuesday March 19, 2013 with only 200 of the 545 member Lok Sabha present making it quite evident how serious the honourable law makers of this land are on this crucial issue affecting the lives of nearly half of India’s population under constant threat of annihilation starting right from the womb.

Long-term Achievements.
a. Proper understanding of the problem and remedial measures to be provided, being imposed by external thinking processes fail to achieve results. The effective solutions and answers can come only from within the communities.
b. The current westernized development models fails miserably since the specific goals and objectives addressed, hold no meaning for local communities unable to identify with the priorities of an entirely different cultural background.
c. Systematic thinking concerning the under-served beyond the exigencies and compulsions of elections and the voter’s bank is yet to be initiated.
d. A shift from individual gains to community gains, community assets and community resource management is necessary to remain in touch with the Indian ethos and, with the focus on empowering local communities.
e. Taking care of the deprived means, highlighting the importance of conservation and humanitarianism. It also serves to strengthen the community, since the deprived can be best taken care of within the fold of the family, bound by filial rights, duties and obligations.
